2007 Hmmm…
What is it about the New Year that strengthens our resolve to lose weight, get organized, spend less money, stop smoking or some other pledge to improve our lives? Maybe the excess of the holidays feeds into it when we find our wallets with a little less money and our waste lines a little bigger. Maybe it’s our natural desire to keep improving ourselves (which is healthy) or our quest for perfection (very unhealthy!).
I’ll just say this, I’ve learned to be careful about the resolutions I make. I want to be sure they are realistic. Many statistics I’ve read say that most of us give up by February or March. And what does that lead to? Guilt! Guilt is one of the most useless and potentially damaging emotions you can feel. Now if we make a mistake, feeling bad about it is natural…constantly beating ourselves up about it isn’t. Take it easy on yourself! You are only human! You have the rest of your life to work on that building called, YOURSELF! Here are some options:
-Jazz up a room in your house
- Make a date with yourself to read, dream or be alone
- Indulge at a day spa
- Clean your closet (literally or figuratively)
- Make peace with yourself
(Accept yourself…Flaws and all! What a concept? Easy?)
Then when you say, “Happy New Year!” you’ll mean it!
Peace & Blessings
